Sugi Pine

"Cryptomeria japonica"

This aromatic evergreen is a memeber of the redwood family and growsin Hawaii to around 80 feet in heigth and 1 1/2 feet in diameter. Frequentlycalled "Japanese cedar" sugi is the national tree of Japan usedin oranamentals and found around temples. The wood is a soft, lightweightwood that is easily worked and durable. The sapwood is white to yellowish,and the heartwood reddish brown. Because of its aroma, sugi is fequentlyused in jewelry boxes, drawers and other furniture pieces.

Sugi Pine is stocked in 4/4 and 8/4 thickness and retails for $4.25 aboard foot.
